Gary was back with another release and a new image, this time it was a Mad Max style and clutching a black baseball bat, for what purpose nobody knows, perhaps it was to beat the critics with if he got a bad review. This time Numan had no worries as Warriors the single and album were well received by the music press. Produced by Numan and Bill Nelson it saw Gary Mix electronics with guitar and haunting sax and more fretless bass, with a live feel, which made the tracks ideal for playing live. Warriors got to No 20 in the UK charts
Warriors
Lyrics
Warriors
(Single from 'Warriors' album, 1983)
I fall
Down
No control somehow
No help
Now
My favour slides
No-one comes
Here
Now I'm feeding strangers
Thin air
Like cold death
Here in my heart
I fell for so long for you
Come in
I'm
The ghost of the white faced clown
She's gone
Gone
I won't look back she's gone
I'm old
So old
This infection of time
My skin
Age
Shows no kindness to me
I fell for so long for you
My Car Slides (1)
(B-side, 'Warriors' single)
1
My car slides
My last words are
'Help, Mother I'm'
My car slides
I wait for cold
A fear of the dark
My car slides
And I pray to
Things I've not seen
Here am I
Sad and lonely
Here am I
Quite by chance I slide
My car slides
The radio plays
'Heaven...' something
My car slides
This quiet night
Time plays slow tricks
My car slides
My clock runs down
Tick tock tick...
Here am I
Sad and lonely
Here am I
Quite by chance I slide
My Car Slides (2)
(Bonus track on 12" 'Warriors' single)
Now there's a girl outside my door
She's raw pink shame
She makes love as the machines play
Sound effects of mayhem
She disconnects my young heart at times
The cure comes next
Here am I
Sad and lonely
Here am I
Quite by chance I slide
She has the problem of need
Not conversation
She can only whisper such things
Like 'I tear inside'
She's like a gangster in drag I knew
Skin like china
Here am I
Sad and lonely
Here am I
Quite by chance I slide
