Along with the Human League, Gary Numan can take the lion's share of the credit for persuading the new wave to trade punk's guitars for synthesisers and create a whole new musical movement. As the 1970s ended, the former Gary Webb topped the charts with his Tubeway Army, playing sellout concerts to hordes of self-professed 'Numanoids' who aped his distinctive stage look and hung on his every move. He sustained a decade as a chart regular and, though he took time out to become a proficient aerobatic pilot, he has continued to produce challenging music in the 1990s. An all-star tribute album has recently revealed the breadth of respect he's earned from his fellow artists, but for this live recording we return to the 1984-85 period when 'My Dying Machine'. "Your Fascination and "Call Out The Dogs' all reached the Top 75 singles chart. Also included are versions of major hits from earlier in the decade, We Are Glass and 'We Take Mystery (To Bed)'. Detractors considered him passionless, but Numanoids knew better; this is a good time to fly back into music history and join the Tubeway Army.
