Gary’s first tour opened at the Glasgow. Apollo in September 1979. Nobody knew quite what to expect, for although record sales were tremendous, there was no real yardstick with which to measure Gary's personal popularity in the country. However, from the instrumental opening of `Me, I Disconnect From You', the response from the audience was wild and deeply emotional. His last show before this had been the White Hart, Acton, where fighting had broken out and when he didn't have a record out, still less a hit single. Now, here he was in front of 3,500 adoring fans at Glasgow, beginning a full British concert tour. A star was born.
