Blitzed editors were lucky to have interviewed John a number of times in the past, and in this issue they present a previously unpublished interview feature on John's life and music that shines a light on what an honest, genuine and humourous man he was.

This issue also takes time to remember Soft Cell’s Dave Ball and Our thoughts are with their families and friends.

PRESS RELEASE

Gary Numan stands as one of the most singular and influential figures in modern popular music—a visionary whose radical reimagining of rock helped usher in a new era of electronic sound. Over more than four decades, Numan has carved out a career defined by restless innovation, fierce independence, and an unwavering commitment to a creative path entirely his own.

His refusal to compromise—his determination to follow instinct over fashion or commercial logic—has ultimately been vindicated. Nowhere is this clearer than in the difficult years of the late 1980s and 1990s, when the hits dried up, the critics remained hostile, and each new release seemed to deepen the struggle. He could easily have abandoned his ambitions, chased trends, or tried to replicate the formula that made him a star in 1979. Instead, he kept moving forward, making music that reflected genuine curiosity rather than market pressure.

That perseverance allowed Numan not only to maintain his artistic integrity but to re-emerge stronger than ever, culminating in a late-career renaissance that saw him return to commercial success and critical acclaim—including a triumphant appearance as one of the standout performances of Glastonbury 2025.

Delving into the archives, Thas resulted in this large format full colour book which is crammed full of previously unpublished photos, memorabilia and historical documents.

A Word Foe Raven

1/12/25

I would also like to say how proud I am of Raven. With all the shock and emotion of my brother passing I’ve noticed Raven’s success has been pushed to the side somewhat and I’ve barely mentioned her incredible performances throughout this tour.

This is her first ever tour and that in itself is no easy thing. She’s traveling in a van with her band, staying in (mostly) low end motels every night, long drives each day. Doing it for real, not in tour bus luxury with her parents. On top of all the usual stress, fear and pressure of being a support act just starting out she’s also had to deal with the loss of her much loved uncle John, and seeing her Dad fall apart each night. This tour has obviously proven to be far, far harder for me than I could possibly have imagined. But, for a first tour, for Raven, it must be almost impossible. And yet she has risen to it in a way that, if I’m honest, and as much as I love and support her, I didn’t think she was capable of. She has been remarkable, both on stage and off. A tower of strength to me as I’m struggling, at the same time dealing quietly with her own pain and yet still doing her shows flawlessly night after night. When I think back to me at her age (also touring Telekon strangely enough in 1980) I had none of the strength and resilience she has shown these last few weeks. I couldn’t love her more, but my admiration for what she’s done (is still doing) couldn’t be higher. I am so proud of her.

In addition, last night during her show in Manchester she noticed someone struggling in the crowd, stopped her set, guided the venue staff to the unfortunate person and so got them the help they needed as quickly as possible. It was a difficult situation well handled. Again, so proud of her.

Despite all the emotional turmoil this tour has seen she has delivered, along with her amazing band, quality performances every night. Her songs a mix of beauty and power, her voice soaring above. To say I’m impressed doesn’t come close. Most nights, before I shed a tear or two of sadness for my brother, I’ve already shed a tear or two of pride watching Raven. And so the world keeps turning..

A thank you From Gary

1/12/25

I want to say thank you to everyone that has sent in kind messages since my brother John’s passing two weeks ago. Support has come from near and far and I am enormously grateful. These are obviously difficult days for me and my family, each day is somehow different and yet worse than the day before. As the shock recedes so the sadness deepens, the sense of loss overwhelms. These are feelings familiar to many of you I’m sure, there is certainly nothing unique or special about my experience. But it hurts and crushes just the same. It’s said that grief is the price we pay for love. So it would seem. Thank you again for all your kind words, they have helped more than you know.

ALBUM REVIEW: Gary Numan – 1,000: Live at the Electric Ballroom

26/11/25

Captured during the third and final instalment of his sold-out 2023 residency, 1,000: Live at the Electric Ballroom finds Gary Numan in formidable form.

Camden’s Electric Ballroom, steeped in the musical history of North London, proves a fitting setting for an artist who has spent over four decades shaping the electronic landscape – he barely survived the 80s, the era he influenced; thankfully, he did. Listening to this complete concert recording, it’s difficult to square Numan’s former “uncool” reputation with the sheer authority he commands onstage.
